The Specials

“A Message to You, Rudy” was originally recorded by Dandy Livingstone in 1967. This cover by The Specials became an international hit, reaching the top 40 in six countries overseas. The trombonist from the original version was recruited to perform on this recording.

‘Rudy’ (or rudi or rude boy) is a 1960s Jamaican slang for a juvenile delinquent. The term became popular in England in the late 1970s, referring to teens who listened to ska, and their fashion of the time.
