Are ‘Friends’ Electric?

Tubeway Army

“Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” is a 1979 hit by Tubeway Army. Their breakout single, it hit #1 in the UK Singles Chart and is arguably the song that kicked off synthpop.

After this song, Gary Numan dropped the band name and started performing as a solo artist, in which he released “Cars” which also topped the UK Charts and cracked the US.

The song is about robots in the future that perform different services; they look human so neighbors don’t know what they really are. The robots can do anything that you want but the one in this song is a prostitute.
