Speechless

Speechless

Beyoncé

“Speechless” is a sensual ballad from Beyonce’s debut album Dangerously In Love. With a slow yet alluring musical production, layered over a controlled and seductive vocal performance by Beyonce, “Speechless” stands as a powerful and sexually charged ode to the intimacies behind locked doors between man and woman. It simultaneously exploring the vulnerability sex requires while showcasing the ecstasy that it can provide.

Pop Matters lauded the song heavily in a 2003 review of Beyonce’s debut album:

Beyoncé‘s approach to ballads throughout Dangerously in Love can be best described creamy—and yes that pun is definitely intended. Tracks like…“Speechless” are vocal orgasms. “Speechless” may be the most brilliant R&B ballad recorded in the last five years—as good as MJ’s “Butterflies,” Maxwell’s “Fortunate,” or Jaheim’s “Special Day.” The genius of the songs lies in its chorus, where Beyoncé repeatedly coos “you got me …” only uttering “speechless” at what seems the last possible moment with a raspy growl that sounds like … well, I can’t go there. The song’s rising action recalls Art of Noise’s classic “Moments in Love.”

The song has been included on the set list of most of Beyonce’s tours including the Dangerously In Love Tour, The Verizon Ladies First Tour, and The Beyonce Experience.
