“50 Words for Snow” is the sixth and title track from Kate Bush’s second album of 2011, featuring Stephen Fry in the role of Professor Joseph Yupik. It is a playful spin on the myth that Eskimos have such a large amount of different words for snow.

Sung/spoken in English as opposed to the Eskimo’s language, it begins with many words that do indeed exist in this language before eventually traversing into the realms of the bizarre and made-up words, some of which Kate was still adjusting right before Stephen arrived to record his part. Fry was chosen due to his reputation of being intelligent and well respected, with Kate saying that “whenever he says something you think it must be important” and intended for his voice to give even the most ridiculous words some gravitas.
