The title track in Aaliyah’s second studio album, “One in a Million” was considered an atypical R&B song at the time due to its almost drum-n-bass style beats. It was one of the early examples of Timbaland’s drum-skitter-style of programming.

In a 2015 interview with Billboard, Missy Elliott recalled the song’s release saying, “When we did [Aaliyah’s] ‘One in a Million,’ they wouldn’t play it at first because they said it was off—the rhythm, the melody, everything.” The song reached #1 on the R&B charts for 6 weeks.
