“New Slaves” was the first official offering of Kanye West’s most polarizing album, Yeezus. After teasing a June 18 date through Twitter, on May 12, 2013, and performing new music privately at the Met Gala no more information was given about the album.

On May 17, the song was premiered in 66 screenings across 66 different buildings across the globe with a black and white visual featuring Kanye’s face. After the debut, Virgil Abloh would reveal the song’s title via Instagram. The following night, “New Slaves” was performed on Saturday Night Live.

This song samples “Gyöngyhajú Lány” by Hungarian rock band Omega.
