Cross My Heart

Cross My Heart

Eighth Wonder

“Cross My Heart” was originally written by songwriter and producer Michael Jay for pop singer Martika, who at the time was preparing for her own solo debut. Jay’s publishing deal however prevented songs from being witheld for one artist, resulting in two versions of the track being recorded before Martika’s own in 1988.

Originally recorded by Tracie Spencer, Eighth Wonder’s version served as the fourth single from their second album Fearless. The track peaked at the top 10 in Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Finland, top 20 in France and Germany, #56 in the US and #13 in their native UK. The single fared almost as well as their previous hit “I’m Not Scared,” becoming the group’s highest charting single in the US.
