A Coral Room

A Coral Room

Kate Bush

“A Coral Room” is the seventh track from Kate Bush’s 2005 double album, Aerial, and the final track from the “A Sea of Honey” side of the album. Back down to the more moderate tempo of 117 bpm, it retains the E major key of previous song “Joanni”.

Despite the main theme of the song being the passage of time, the song eventually comes to address a saddening topic: the death of Kate’s mother. Hannah Bush became sick during the recording of Kate’s previous album, The Red Shoes, before dying a short time later. Although she was mentioned in the song “Moments of Pleasure”, this song is the first and only time Kate has sung about her mother’s death and thus links the song to the theme of each song being about a person.

It is the only song on this side of the album to have a vocal from someone other than Kate.
