A Roller Skating Jam Named “Saturdays”

De La Soul (Ft. Q-Tip & Vinia Mojica)

“A Roller Skating Jam Named "Saturdays” is the second single from De La Soul’s second album De La Soul Is Dead. They bring in Vinia Mojica to provide vocals for the chorus and they once again team up with their Native Tongue brother Q-Tip after collaborating with him on both the album version and remix version of “Buddy.”

This bouncy roller rink anthem layers a number of samples with the main beat coming from “Evil Vibrations” by the Mighty Ryeders. The song was later remixed for the single release and featured Q-Tip and Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest along with Dres from Black Sheep.

Posdnuos said he made the “Saturdays” beat for a Native Tongues subgroup called the Fabulous Fleas, which included himself, Q-Tip, Afrika Baby Bam and Juju from The Beatnuts. However, he made it a De La song when their label needed a single, and the Fabulous Fleas never materialized.
