While Mahalia Jackson’s studio rendition of Clara Ward’s gospel hymn was released in 1961, her best-known performance of the track was performed in 1963 at the March on Washington, shortly before Martin Luther King Jr gave his now-iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.

Jackson posthumously won the Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance for this track after its inclusion in 1976 on The Best of Mahalia Jackson.
