Aerial

Aerial

Kate Bush

“Aerial” is the ninth installment from the “An Endless Sky of Honey” song suite, and both the final and title track of the whole album.

It completes the day cycle by bringing the dawn of the new day and allows the motif of birdsong to return one final time. The word aerial itself means “existing, happening, or operating in the air”, an adjective which ends up describing not only the birds, but the desires of the narrator herself as she expresses her need to gain height and exist alongside the feathered animals.

Like the majority of the “Sky” suite, it hasn’t been discussed in any interviews and was later performed live as an extended version in Act Three of the Before the Dawn residency. A live recording was released on the album of the same name in late 2016.
