Adventure.exe

Adventure.exe

Owen Pallett

“Adventure.exe” is about the famous Japanese author Yukio Mishima, celebrated for his powerful yet fragile prose, who led an unsuccessful coup against the Japanese government in 1970. Mishima shows up again in “I’m Afraid of Japan”.

The title of the song comes from the 1976 text-based computer game Colossal Cave Adventure, popularly known by the name of its executable file: ADVENT.EXE or ADVENTURE.EXE.

Regarding the song, Pallett (who is gay) said:

Basically, domestic dudes, esp. homos, are always looking for drama in their day to day life. That explains the title. “Adventure.exe” suggests that you can ‘spice up your life’ just by running an executable file. True? Yes, it is!
