10 Mile Stereo (Cough Syrup Remix)

Beach House

“10 Mile Stereo (Cough Syrup Remix)” is a slowed down tempo version of “10 Mile Stereo.” The title may refer to the recreational use of cough syrup, that contains both promethazine and codeine, which has been popularized by chopped and screwed, a technique of remixing hip hop music pioneered by DJ Screw. The screwed technique involves slowing the tempo of a song, usually to about 60-70 beats per minute, just like the Beach House did here. Cough syrup itself is a viscous substance which pours out of the bottle very slowly, and people under the influence of it experience time in a distorted slow-motion.
