“Raspberry Beret” was the first single released from Prince’s seventh album, Around the World in a Day.

Originally demoed in 1982, the track was greatly reworked by the time it was released, reflecting the influence that Prince’s backing band, The Revolution, had on his mid-80s sound. (The psychedelic string arrangement and rhythmic Middle Eastern finger cymbals originated from band input.)

The song, a picturesque/picaresque tale of falling in love/lust, was an immediate hit reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a concert staple for the rest of Prince’s life.
