The song is a cover of a Slits‘ song, released in the band’s debut album Cut less than two months before the Raincoats version came out .

The lyrics are about being guided by her own feelings. “Adventures Close to Home” is a very sarcastic title, because it kinda decreases the importance of the emotions expressed in the lyrics.
