Cars, Clothes, Calories

Cars, Clothes, Calories

blackbear (Ft. Tyler Carter)

“Cars, Clothes, Calories” is an R&B tune from blackbear that focuses on excessive materialism over genuine romance, namely expensive cars, clothes, and food—basically the gold digger trope.

Featuring Tyler Carter and released as a single for blackbear’s 2012 mixtape Sex, it’s the biggest song from the tape by far. It blew up as a musical.ly trend a few years after release.

Its title was inspired by a Saves the Day song called “Cars & Calories” as alluded to in a 2020 interview with blackbear. The band was instrumental in bringing emo music to the mainstream. Fitting for the collaborators who both had a presence in the emo band scene of the late 2000’s and early 2010’s, namely with Musto’s Polaroid and Carter’s Woe, Is Me.
