Antarctica is a song about the experience that Royal Navy Officer Robert Falcon Scott and his crew had in Antarctica in 1912. However, the historical reference is a masquerade for lyrics that suggest an experience with a woman/lover.

In 1900 Scott was chosen to lead the British National Antarctic Expedition on the DISCOVERY. They set sail from Cowes on August 6, 1901 with 50 men and 19 Greenland huskies. (SIDELIGHT: The 1989/90 Steger expedition included dogs descended from these huskies.) The expedition charted approximately 1,200 miles of coastline.
