“Conductor” is a song from the Deluxe edition of Florence and the Machine’s third album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. The song describes a relationship with a lover using music as a metaphor. Some lines include clear references to Florence and the band, while others reference musical techniques.

Note that a conductor can refer to the person in charge of directing an orchestra, but also a device which transmits heat or electricity.

During the Lungs era, Florence usually had a small drum on stage. Drum sticks are very similar in appearance to conductor’s batons and her hand movements while holding the drum stick were very similar to those of a conductor with a baton.
