“Roar” is the lead single off Katy Perry’s fourth studio album Prism. The song deviates from the electro-pop sound on Teenage Dream in exchange for a mid-tempo pop-rock anthem similar to Sara Bareilles‘ “Brave.”

The song is a self-empowerment anthem that one critic described as a “stylistic return to the arena-sized singer-songwriter formula that made her debut One of the Boys so remarkable.”

The song was written by Dr. Luke and Perry’s longtime friend Bonnie McKee, both of whom co-wrote the singer’s other #1 hits “Teenage Dream,” “California Gurls,” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”.
