Animal Rap (Micky Ward Mix)

Animal Rap (Micky Ward Mix)

Jedi Mind Tricks (Ft. Kool G Rap)

This is the remix to the lead single from Jedi Mind Tricks' third LP, Visions of Gandhi. The remix was included on both the single version and as a bonus track on the album, whose name was inspired by Foxy Brown’s verse on Affirmative Action.

Vinnie Paz had been itching to collaborate with Kool G Rap, who Paz considers to be the greatest rapper of all time.

This was the first time JMT named two versions of a song after a famous boxing match. This version of Animal Rap is named after Micky Ward, the tough-nosed Irish fighter from Boston whose life would become the subject of a major motion picture. Interestingly, that motion picture does not include the part of his life for which he is most famous, which is a trilogy of fights with the Italian boxer Arturo Gatti. The other version of Animal Rap (the main one) bears Gatti’s name.

JMT would later go on to name the two versions of its lead single from its next LP, Legacy of Blood, after the memorable match between Julio Cesar Chavez and Meldrick Taylor.

Stoupe’s sample of the obscure track “Dear Love” by Tragic Sense is what I would consider to be the best work in an illustrious career of unbelievable sample flips.
