Real Love

Real Love

The Beatles

Based on a 1979 demo by John Lennon, “Real Love” was reworked by the surviving Beatles in 1995 and released in 1996 as part of the Anthology project.

The song features Lennon’s original vocals, piano and guitar, overdubbed with McCartney on bass, Harrison on guitar, Starr on drums and backing vocals from the whole band. Like “Free As A Bird”, it was produced by ELO’s Jeff Lynne rather than the Beatles' usual producer George Martin. This lends it a slightly different sound to their previous releases (particularly on Ringo’s drums, which have a more reverb-y, “ELO” sound).

With George Harrison’s death in 2001, “Real Love” marks the last time the Beatles would collaborate.
