On July 5, 2015, Bring Me The Horizon started a mystery online campaign. The image of a white umbrella on a black background took over their social media and official website, causing fans to wonder whether new music was to be released soon. On July 12, the official audio for “Happy Song” was released on Youtube.

“Happy Song” shows the band moving in the same musical direction that surprised many fans with their 2014 single “Drown.” There is more of an emphasis on melody and production than the heavy metalcore riffs and breakdowns of previous BMTH music. Talking to Gigwise after their mammoth Wembley show in December 2014, Oli said the new album would have them pushing themselves further, writing different songs to those of ten years ago.

Happiness doesn’t sell that well… pain’s better to listen to

Oli also told Billboard Magazine:

“Happy Song” is a sarcastic open letter to the world about how we use superficial and trivial things to ignore the real problems.
