Not really “inside scoop” but it’s often revealing, and often very funny, to play songs like this, including from other “artists”, slowed-down, pitch-shifted, or both. You end up hearing a bored session band trying their hardest to play in time, slowed down to half the speed. It can be really funny to hear adult women, and especially men, singing slowly (since back in the day before computers there was no easy pitch-shifting, so you’d just have to record in slow time to compensate for the tape then being sped up).

Back when The Chipmunks were popular, if they ever were (1960s and 70s?), it must have been a little depressing to be the band behind a popular song in the charts, but completely unknown, and with the greatest talent and skill you can demonstrate being playing at completely the wrong tempo!
