Real Life

The Weeknd

The Weeknd begins his 2015 album, Beauty Behind the Madness, with advice from his own mother on how his life was going to destroy him over time.

In this intro, we find Abel opening up about mistakes and claiming them as such, rather than in the storytelling aspect he has utilized during his career.

The song’s pre-chorus is reminiscent of the bridge on Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”,

People always told me be careful of what you do And don’t go around breaking young girls' hearts And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do cause the lie becomes the truth

Abel also mentions his relationship with his mother on the grandiose Echoes of Silence track “The Fall.”
