Heartlight

Heartlight

Neil Diamond

“Heartlight” is the opening song and lead single of Diamond’s 15th album of the same name. It was written by Diamond along with the hit-writing team of Carole Bayer-Sager and Burt Bacharach. Inspired by a scene in the 1982 film E.T. The Extra Terrestrial where the main character’s heart glows, the company that owned the rights to the movie were paid $25,000 – even though the song makes no specific mention of anything else in the film.

The song was an international hit, reaching the top 5 in the US and Canada in late 1982, and also charting well in Germany and New Zealand.
