“Dammn Baby” is the third song on Janet Jackson’s eleventh studio album, Unbreakable.

Composed and produced by Jackson with her longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, the song also features production and writing input from Dem Jointz. Most of the songs on Unbreakable are mid-tempo and feature airy, organic arrangements; “Dammn Baby” is notable for retaining the upbeat, hard-edged sonic density of past Jackson/Jam/Lewis collaborations (but with elements of trap thrown into the mix).

The song’s breakdown includes a sample from Jackson’s 1998 hit “I Get Lonely” from her acclaimed album The Velvet Rope. The inclusion of the sample can be seen as a victory lap: a nod to the groundbreaking r&b that Jackson, Jam, and Lewis were making seventeen years ago in the midst of their latest boundry-pusher.
