This is the opening track on Soulja’s The DeAndre Way. In this song Soulja Boy comments on the superficiality of the hip-hop world, and his melancholy delivery gives the listener the impression that he’s tired of the culture that he’s had a part in creating. “Hat goin' match my shirt./ Shirt goin' match my belt.” While me may look fresh to def, Soulja doesn’t care anymore. he wants more substance in his life.
One could also argue that with this song Soulja Boy is expressing his regret for dropping out of high school to pursue his music career. “I bet I dress every day like it’s the first day of school.” Soulja has forgotten what it means to go to school for the first time since he’s so far gone.
