Echoes in Rain

Enya

With its bouncy pizzicato, “Echoes in Rain” sees Enya describe the buoyancy and optimisim towards the end of a journey.

The track premiered on Ken Bruce’s BBC Radio 2 show on October 8th 2015 as the first single from Dark Sky Island. Marking Enya’s return after a 7 year gap, it bears many resemblances to her original breakout hit, “Orinoco Flow”. Like the Watermark track, “Echoes in Rain” has an upbeat marching rhythm, a multi-vocal acapella ending and was the last written for the album. One of the few contrasts is an instrumental piano bridge rather than one with layered vocals.

Lyrically, it acts as a continuation. After the long adventure characterised by “Orinoco” (and arguably “On My Way Home”) it depicts the journey home. Most notably, it encourages seizing the good in the bad and being encouraged by what has been, and what could still be, as you near home on the final stretch and prepare for your next journey.
