Used to Love You

Used to Love You

Gwen Stefani

“Used To Love You” details the after-effects of Gwen’s divorce from Bush singer Gavin Rossdale. The track, which serves as the lead single from Stefani’s third solo album This Is What The Truth Feels Like, was written in the wake of the couple’s breakup.

Touching on the song’s immediacy, Gwen told The Today Show’s Matt Lauer:

“I’ve never put a record out where I’m actually going through things in real time. [But] this is like, I wrote that song like a couple weeks ago.”

The mid-tempo electro-pop track was premiered live on October 17, 2015 as part of her second performance for MasterCard’s #PricelessSurprises campaign. Before performing the song, she said to the audience:

I just want to share a song that I wrote recently…This song is really special.

The studio version of the song was released to radio and digital retail outlets on October 20, 2015. That same day, the official video — loosely inspired by the iconic 1990 clip for Sinead O'Connor’s breakup anthem “Nothing Compares 2 U” — debuted on Facebook.

The song charted at Number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100.
