“American Dream” is the 13th track on August’s album This Thing Called Life. He uses vocals from children and tells listeners to never short settle their goals.

Making references to famous African American historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X to show that if they caved into what people told them their impact on the world would’ve never happened.

He amplifies this moral to tell people if that they listen to non-believers they will fail to make their impact on this world. August relates to this notion because he faced people who told him that he would be nothing in life.
