Mandolin Orange’s “Daylight” is one of the faster paced tracks on the duo’s fourth album. Emily Frantz herself described it as one of the more “upbeat” tracks on the album in their 2015 interview with popmatters.com, stating it was one of her favorites to play live. She also describes it as a “total opposite” of Blue Ruin, the previous track. The song describes the plight of someone who has lost someone dear to their hearts, but is saved by a new love in their life. It could be lead singer Andrew Marlin’s personal account of his experience after his mother’s death from surgical complications when he was 18. But something in his life arrives to bring him happiness again.
