“Don’t Let Me Down” is the first single The Chainsmokers released since their single “Roses” achieved chart success. Andrew Taggart said of the track:

I’m super proud of it. I think it’s one of the best songs I’ve written and produced. I think people are going to be pretty blown away by it and it’s very different than “Roses”, which is nice.

The production is frantic and chord-heavy, with a final-drop switch up.
