Precious Possession

Precious Possession

Anna Wise

It’s easy to get lost in Anna Wise’s dreamy voice. With a sultry rescue call, “Hold me closer, I’m wasting away,” Wise lures you into her first solo single “Precious Possession.” But you soon realize that it’s you, not Wise, who needs rescuing: you’re trapped in the pretty dystopia she paints with slo-mo vocals against a hazy, mysterious backdrop.

This dystopia stems from self-awareness: “I’m a woman.“ Wise explores what it means to be a woman in a f*cked up world that simultaneously devalues women as objects of affection and also calls on their love to redeem its humanity.

It seems that 3 voices are fighting to be heard in this song, each speaking to different experiences of what it means to be a woman.
1. a sexualized woman
2. a self-aware woman
3. a man who needs both women: the vulnerable, sexualized one and the confident, self-aware one

Women are the theme of Wise’s forthcoming EP.
She says of her muses:

Women are great. We’re f**king great, and I want to talk about us,
