Hello, Lakisha

Hello, Lakisha

Kilo Kish

“Hello, Lakisha”– the second song on her debut album– is about her name and growing up with the name Lakisha.

In the first part of her song she mentions that she goes by Kish “because it’s less obvious”(a subtle precursor of the significance of the song).

Throughout the song, she discusses the negative stereotypes that came with her name as well as her need to develop her identity. Using the Combahee River Collective to discuss pejorative stereotypes attributed to Black women.
