Rory Rodriguez’s, Dayseeker’s primary writer and vocalist, Dad was born with a long-term degenerative disease called Parkinson’s which attacks the central nervous system. However, A Cancer Uncontained received its name from Rory’s outlook on the word, explained in the quote below, of cancer;
A disease that causes great suffering and a lot of struggle".
Rory largely opened up about this song during an interview with Babetalk TV. He explained;
It’s about my dad who has Parkinson’s. I can’t remember what the exact definition of what a cancer is, because I looked it up in the dictionary, but it is a disease that causes great suffering and a lot of struggle. That is where the “Your hands won’t stop shaking” line came from. Ironically enough I feel like I jinxed my dad because he got cancer after the fact. He had surgery to remove thyroid cancer.
