“Controlla” is a dancehall-infused song in which Drake details his commitment to a woman. It features a similar vibe to Drake’s collaboration with Rihanna, “Work.”

The track features Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan. Popcaan and Drizzy have been very close for a while now, with Popcaan appearing in the outro of Drake’s “Know Yourself.”

On March 29, “Controlla” leaked online. Originally thought to be a throwaway, Drake announced on April 27 that “Controlla” would be appearing on Views (then known as Views From The 6). However, in the album version of the track, Drake decided to scrap Popcaan’s verses and added a sample of Beenie Man’s “Tear Off Mi Garment.”
