“As a Sugar” is the sixth song off Sky-hi’s album Catharsis, located in the central part of the album, dealing with loss and endless quest for something that can’t be found.

At first glance it looks like a song about not compromising to obtain success, but it can be seen as a fighting song for everyone battling their own demons and fights. The use of the plural form “we” instead of “I” is a specific choice to convey this feeling of universality as opposed to just his own personal story.

Music wise, the track has been produced by Japanese hip hop legend Kreva. Sky-hi was looking for a track with strings to function as an interlude (as a reprise of sorts of “Freesia ~prologue~” and “epilpgue~ when Kreva by chance offered him a track that he felt suitable for Sky-hi. As soon as he heard it, he was surprised that it was exactly what he was looking for.
