Again

Again

Flyleaf

The second track and lead single of Flyleaf’s 2009 album Memento Mori.

Lead singer (at the time) Lacey Mosley explained the song in a letter written to fans:

It is written for people like me, who feel a restlessness to make the world better somehow, but are much to small to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. It’s to say, you have the right heart, but you weren’t meant to carry it all. You are so strong, you are able to handle so much! But you can’t handle everything all at once. Let go! God’s big and He can handle it all better than you! Its okay to let go and not understand everything."

Flyleaf debuted this song in early 2007 while touring in support of their self-titled debut album. However, the lyrics to the song changed after they decided to record it. Mosley explained:

The fans seem to know what’s happening with us before we do and I’m not surprised to find out many have known the lyrics to ‘Again’ for a year now. :-) The first verse and chorus did change in the studio! It is a good thing, because the words say better what my heart meant.

“Again” achieved radio success, similar to “All Around Me” on Flyeaf’s debut self-titled record. The song cracked Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, peaking at #12 and remaining on the charts for 33 weeks. This was Flyleaf’s highest-peaking song on the chart, and the longest spent on the chart as well.
