Lalah Hathaway’s “Angel” is a remake of Anita Baker’s 1983 hit single. Though the song had been in the repertoire of Lalah’s live show for years, it came to the forefront when she was tapped to sing the song for a tribute to Anita Baker during the Soul Train Music Awards in 2010.

For the recording of Lalah’s first live album in 2015, “Angel” was released as one of the first singles from the album. On February 12, 2017, the song won her a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance, and the Lalah Hathaway Live album won Best R&B Album.
