Imad Royal describes this shapeshifting summer jam as “Beach Boys meets Mike Will Made-It.” In an interview with Genius, he said:

The song honestly started as a reggae song mainly, with reggae drums and everything. But after a few listens, it felt like trap drums would really make the record bang.

I’ve always been a huge fan of combining sounds and vibes because I’m a genuine fan of almost all music.

While “Bad 4 U” has all the makings of a summer jam, Royal says he didn’t write the tune during the warm-weather months.

Ironically I wrote and produced this back in February of 2015. But I had just moved to LA, so I guess I caught the palm tree/sunny bug.
