Mr. Know-It-All

Young the Giant

“Mr. Know-It-All” is the fourth song from Young the Giant’s third studio album, Home of the Strange.

This song, talks about Jack and Jill, two teenagers who put up these fronts at school for everyone to think they’re cool. However because of these fronts they don’t necessarily know how to talk to one another. They’re both glued to their phones (“staring at her/his phone”) and are both too scared and too cool to truly acknowledge each other. However despite of this they sit together because in a way everyone expects the two coolest people to be a “power couple”.

Both are in love, but they have to save some reputation, that’s why the lyric say “Try to live up to the person you pretend to be”.

In the bridge, we return to Titus – looking inward at American society as an outsider – an immigrant – dismayed at his ultimate rejection. No matter who Titus pretends to be, he can’t seem to achieve his desire: to be loved by what was once his dream.
