NCT DREAM’s debut single “Chewing Gum,” is an upbeat joyous song pertaining to the bubblegum pop genre. With a fun choreography including hoverboards and bright vocals, the song is meant to be perceived as an exciting dance song that reveals the fresh and fun individuality of the teenage members.

On August 18, 2016, SM Entertainment first confirmed NCT DREAM’s debut along with its official line-up, consisting of the training team participant of the kids show The Mickey Mouse Club and famous Chinese child singer Chenle, as well as fellow Chinese member Renjun. The group debuted only six days after the announcement through a digital release, with a Mandarin version of the song being included.

Upon its release, the single debuted at the No. 2 on the World Digital Songs sales chart and took the 23rd spot in Spotify’s Viral 50 chart. Their live debut stage took place a day after the track’s release.

“Chewing Gum” and its Mandarin version were later included in NCT DREAM’s first single album, The First.
