At the 2016 BET Hip-Hop Awards, Lecrae performed a spoken word piece along with Big K.R.I.T., who also performed a powerful spoken word addressing topics of police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement, donned in a customized police uniform.

In his own spoken word, Lecrae touches on the themes of the Black Lives Matter movement, and even includes familiar lines professing his faith and commenting on the pernicious music of mainstream rap, and its adverse affect on the progress of the black community.
