“Dear Theodosia (Reprise)” is the closing track on the Lin-Manuel Miranda curated Hamilton Mixtape.

It’s the second cover of “Dear Theodosia” to appear on the mixtape – the first is a duet featuring Regina Spektor and Ben Folds.

In the original Hamilton, “Dear Theodosia” highlights the similarities between friends and eventual rivals Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. In this version, Chance the Rapper plays the role of Aaron Burr, addressing his newborn daughter, Theodosia. Francis plays Alexander Hamilton, whose verse is addressed to his newborn son, Philip.

Coincidentally, Chance the Rapper has recently had his first child. His 2016 track, “Angels,” details his quest to ‘clean up the streets’ and make the world a better place for his daughter. These same preoccupations run through “Dear Theodosia” – specifically, the creation of a nation in which the next generation can achieve their potential.
