“The Boomin' System” is the first single from Mama Said Knock You Out. It hit #1 on the US Rap Chart and was moderately successful in crossing over to pop, peaking at #48 in the US and #87 in the UK.

Most of the music is sampled from “The Payback” by James Brown. Also sampled is Brown’s classic “Funky Drummer”.

Some controversial lines included in the original single version of the track were edited out of the album version, which came out a month afterward:

The hook of the song is sampled from another track on this album: “Cheesy Rat Blues”.
