First debuted live at Splash! 19 music festival in Germany, “Bubblin” is the second single released by Anderson .Paak in 2018. It was preceded by “‘Til It’s Over” which featured in an ad for the Apple Homepod.

A music video for “Bubblin” was released later the same day, directed by Calmatic. Paak’s oldest son, Soul, appears in the video, as do the members of Paak’s band, The Free Nationals.

The single premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show as a World Record:

Of the song, Paak told Lowe:

“I had the beat from Jahlil Beats and AntMan Wonder. I was trying to get Little Simz to rap on it first because she was in the studio too. I remember trying to get other people on it, and then eventually I just wrote on it.

In a text message .Paak received from his mom, she told him her interpretation of the song:

Love “Bubblin” Brandon. Tell me if I’m close. The song’s subliminal message is about the love of money and how it makes people act to get it and how it changes people. The ATM represents the abundance of it and also the insatiable desire of it and the inevitable detriment of it. How did I do?

To which .Paak replied, “Yes spot on!!!”

Some of the song’s lyrics are explained in Genius' Verified video:
