Following “CRZY” and “Distraction”, Kehlani continues with “Advice”, her third single from her debut album SweetSexySavage

In “Advice” Kehlani realized that she is invested in a relationship with someone who mistreats her. Taking a turn from her last two singles, Kehlani created a strong impression on her listeners by displaying heartfelt emotion through the genuine lyrics, slow beat, and high notes of this song.

In her interview with Zane Lowe, Kehlani explained her mood while writing “Advice” :

I was just out of a really bad relationship with someone who I really thought who was going to be like the one person for me and ended up showing me so many times that they weren’t, and all my friends being like “yo you are the girl who sings to these little girls ‘not do bad’ and ‘not to take absolutely just anything from anyone’ and ‘not to take, you know, half-assed participation from people’” and I was just like “yo why don’t I listen to myself” and so that’s where “Advice” came from, was just, you know, telling me that I had the anwsers

Kehlani opening up about the making of “Advice”:

I realized there’s a bunch of girls who are going through the same thing and they needed to hear from somebody…It was really like, a healing thing rather than us just making a song
