This is the first single from my debut album ‘Self Portrait.’ It is supposed to be representative of when you get to an age, usually in the late teens, well at least it was for me, when you notice all the wrongs of the world and realise that ‘change,’ is needed. The album is in a semi-chronological order, hence why this is 9th on the album. I will do an over all explanation of the themes and concepts within the album as a whole at a later date and go into this in more detail. The song is also representative of a post-brexit/trump world and shows the disenfranchisement that youth feel towards the media and political establishment. Yet its also showing the millennial mindset of being angry and outraged easily and pointing out problems with the world without offering real solutions apart from the fact it needs to change. I want people to engage with this song in many different ways when listening. Hopefully some using it as an anthem for change whilst others may mock it for its lack of direction, genericness and unoriginality on the surface. Like with most of the songs on the album, it’s more about the subtext than the actual lyrics from the song. Ps. like I mention in the annotations of the 2nd verse, ‘Change,’ being the title is also representing how theres a change in rap coming as I’m approaching it differently than usual. Trying to spread my influence without reverting to gimmicks or stereotypes, as well as sounding different. Or at least I hope haha.
