It was assumed that the song would be the first single on Lean’s album Unknown Memory. However for unknown reasons, it did not make an appearance.

Kyoto marks a pivotal point of Yung Lean’s transition from totally intertwining his vocals into the production, into bringing his voice more centre stage.
Although this track still doesn’t prominently feature his rapping as the main element, it does more so than his music released before it.
