“Something Just Like This” is about a relationship that doesn’t need to be superhumanly perfect.

On February 21, 2017, Spotify teased the song by displaying a banner advertisement on their main page. It was subsequently released on February 22, 2017, following Coldplay and The Chainsmokers' surprise performance at the BRIT Awards. However, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin teased it in a tweet one month prior:

According to a YouTube representative, the “Something Just Like This” lyric video racked up over 9 million views in just its first 24 hours of availability, a new all-time record.

The song is the second single released from the Chainsmokers' debut album, Memories…Do Not Open, after the lead single “Paris.”
